I know, I know. I said that I would not blog again until exams were over and I was back at home. In fact, I am in the middle of studying for World Religions now and should get back to work.... But I was reading Making Love in the Kitchen (a healthy food blog) just now and this post really grabbed me. *8 Things is a type of game in which a person must list 8 things that correspond to a certain topic. The most recent topic? Well, I just could not resist.
What *8Things do you need to stop listening to? What does “everybody” know is true, but doesn’t work for you? Tell that stuff to take a hike in your *8Things: [title not written for vulgarity purposes, visit the website to see it].
1. You are young, so you don't know what you are talking about. It is so frustrating when people completely dismiss our ideas and opinions because we are teenagers. Especially because we research the things that we are interested in or think are important (environmentalism, nutrition, politics...) very heavily, and a lot of the time the adult talking to us knows far less than we do!
2. Healthy eating ruins all the fun. I have been told this a few times very recently, and it is just not true! I find foods like fresh fruit smoothies, homemade sweet potato curry, crunchy raw bell peppers, and quality raspberry chocolate so much more delicious than completely process fake foods like Gushers candy and hotdogs (which we also oppose because of ethical reasons, of course).
3. You are too idealistic. So we should give up trying to do good things? Tell that the people who ended slavery, got women the right to vote, banned DDT, and legalized gay marriage.
4. Vegetarianism/veganism is not healthy. I never know if I should laugh or cry when I hear this. Not healthy? Oh, I guess that lower rates of cancer, obesity, heart attack, heart disease, vitamin deficiencies, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and many more health problems don't count as "healthy" then. Too bad, because we are not changing!
5. Politics are too boring and confusing to care about. I don't need to bother understanding them. No they are not, and yes you do! The strange thing about my generation (and maybe others as well) is that it seems as if we are split into two groups: those who are extremely passionate about politics, world events, human rights, etc... and those who do not care at all. It not only saddens, but scares me.
6. Dousing things in bleach and other harsh chemicals is the only way to make them clean. Sorry, but no. Chemicals are extremely harmful to human and environmental health, so that "clean" doorknob is actually a health hazard.
7. Liberal values are immoral. We happen to think that equal rights, taking care of those who need help, respecting and celebrating a diversity of religious beliefs (and not letting any dictate the law), practicing non-violence, teaching comprehensive sex education, not letting corrupt industries and companies control our lives, and protecting our (one and only!) planet are all very moral and completely crucial values.
8. It's just a phase, you will grow out of it. Ha! Don't hold your breath.
Join in the fun by creating your own list! If you don't have a blog, just write your list as a comment. If you do have a blog (or Facebook even) post a link. Don't forget to link back to the original post here to share with everyone else.

A Little Housekeeping
I decided to do a little organization and redecorating here at BTC365 for some homework procrastinating spring cleaning! No big changes, but it felt good to update things a little bit.
Here are the changes that you may notice:
This is our last week of school (we can't believe it!) so we are very busy with final exams and papers. I will post soon about some of the things we have been up to now that the weather is gorgeous and about some exciting changes in our lives.
I hope that you are all enjoying a wonderful spring!
Here are the changes that you may notice:
- Edited "Who We Are" info & added a picture (Yes, it does say that we are vegan. I will post about that soon!).
- Removed advertisements & online store
- Moved "Labels" to the middle column for easier viewing
- Changed format of Archive for easier viewing
- Changed "green" label to "environmentally-friendly" because "green" sounds so trendy now
- Updated the "Favorite Websites & Blogs" section (added new links and added lables to specify whether or not the link is to a blog or a website)
- Added "Products That We Love & Use" section
- Added "Books That Teach & Inspire Us" section
- Added a search engine that can search all of our posts and the pages that we link to.

Under the Sea
Saturday evening we went with some friends to see Oceans. What a fantastic movie! It is by DisneyNature and is very similar to Planet Earth and Life. So if you have enjoyed those (as we have!) you will love Oceans. Disney also released Earth on Earth Day 2009. Oceans hit theaters on Earth Day and for every ticket purchased during the first week (which is until this Thursday) Disney will make a donation that goes towards saving the coral reefs.
What is really wonderful about Oceans is that it discusses the environmental problems taking place in our waters. I am so glad that it includes the information because after learning about all the amazing marine wildlife the images of polluted water and fish trying to escape from nets has an especially strong impact.
Even if you cannot get to the theater before Thursday, please consider going to see this movie. You will not regret it! The images are incredible and I was blown away by how the marine life was presented. They all demonstrated characteristics that seem so human. It made me want to go scuba diving and see the wonder for myself. I have always had an extreme fear of sharks, but even I sat in awe at the sight of a man peacefully swimming with one.
Enjoy the peek of our beautiful underwater world! And get excited for the next Disney installement Earth Day 2011 - African Cats!

Happy Earth Day!
Today is the 40th anniversary of the very first Earth Day. Wow! It makes me wonder what the world will look like in another 40 years...
Annie Leonard is speaking at our school tonight. We are really excited to see her! She is famous for The Story of Stuff. There has been an Earth Day event every day this week, but unfortunately we have been really busy with classes and school work so we have not had a chance to attend them all. Have you been celebrating? Although we make living sustainably a part of our daily lives (as best we can), it is still nice to have a certain day set aside to reflect on how important our home is!
This quote is a wonderful perspective on Earth Day:
You can learn more at the official Earth Day website.
Also, today is a good opportunity to get discounts on some of the best environmentally-friendly products!
